Gum Treatment
Gentle, effective treatment for gum disease

At Phillips Ranch Dental, our dentists have over 24 years of experience diagnosing and treating mild to severe gum disease. When you come to our office for gum treatment, you will receive thorough treatment to rapidly and gently eliminate most forms of gum disease, and help you preserve your oral health and prevent tooth loss.
Even if your gum disease is advanced, and requires more serious treatment such as periodontal or gum surgery, we have specialists right here in Phillips Ranch that can help you.
Gentle, thorough cleaning will help you preserve your teeth and gums
Professional periodontal treatments followed up by regular cleanings plus excellent brushing and flossing at home will keep this under control. If the condition has become fairly advanced, some more aggressive treatments with a Periodontist, or periodontal specialist may be called for.
Gum disease affects more than just your gums
There are a great many reasons for your regular check-up to include a screening for gum disease.
Gum disease causes bleeding, swollen gums and tooth loss. In fact, more teeth are lost by patients because of gum disease than any other reason.
In addition, gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, can adversely affect your overall health. Gum disease can increase your risk for cardiovascular disease, low-birth-weight or preterm babies, and can contribute to blood sugar control problems for diabetics
Many patients don’t even realize they have gum disease until the damage is irreversible.
What causes gum disease?

Poor oral hygiene, irregular professional dental cleanings, smoking or chewing tobacco, taking certain medications, defective fillings, crooked teeth and systemic diseases are contributing factors to gum disease.
Some warning signs of gum disease are:
Persistent bad breath or bad taste in the mouth
Gums that bleed during brushing
Permanent teeth that are loose or separating
Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
A healthy lifestyle, regular brushing and flossing and routine checkups at the dentist are the best way to keep your gums healthy and avoid gum disease. Deep cleaning may also be recommended.
If you suspect that you have gum disease or if you have any of the symptoms above, schedule an appointment with us right away.

Periodontal Health
By Howard Glassman, D.D.S.
Let's look at the foundation for your teeth, the gums and jawbone. These are commonly known as the periodontal structures ("perio" meaning "around" or "around the outside of").
Obviously, the gum tissues and bone are what hold and support your teeth, and keep them in your mouth. The big enemy of your periodontal structures is called "Periodontal Disease." EEEK! This is basically a breakdown of the gum surrounding your teeth and resultant receding away of the supporting bone.
The main cause of this process is...
"Dr. Glassman began treating me over 30 years ago. He reassured me and made me feel at ease.
"He now treats my wife, daughter, son in law and both grandchildren. 3 generations!
"Dr.Glassman has treated and halted my gum disorders and kept my mouth and teeth healthy and strong.
"This group makes you feel 'One of the family'- so much so that my grandchildren look forward to their visits."
